Product information

Calcium chloride

Calcium chloride is an inorganic salt composed of calcium and chlorine that occurs in various hydration forms. The pure substance is a white crystalline solid that is strongly hygroscopic in its anhydrous form, eagerly attracting moisture from the environment. The anhydrous salt dissolves in water exothermically, resulting in a strong release of heat. It is very highly soluble in water and has a characteristic salty taste. Due to its property of significantly lowering the freezing point of water, it is frequently used in freezing mixtures and as a de-icing agent.

Application

Calcium chloride is widely used in industry and everyday life due to its hygroscopic nature and its low freezing point. It is extensively employed as a de-icing agent and road salt in winter maintenance, as it is effective even at very low temperatures. In construction, it serves as a setting accelerator for cement and concrete. Due to its strong water-binding property, it is an important drying agent for gases and liquids and is used in dehumidifiers. In the food industry, it is approved as an additive and serves as a firming agent in the production of cheese and tofu. Additionally, it is used for dust control on unpaved roads.
